Smart Cycling Skills Basics

June 30, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Want to get your bike out of storage to ride with Quincycles but are nervous on our streets?

Want to try using Quincy’s new yellow bikeshare bikes but haven’t been on a bike in a while?

Join us for this class for bicyclists who have some cycling experience but want to improve their skills. The workshop will start in the classroom for discussion about safe riding techniques, then we head to the parking lot to practice some on-bike skills. We will finish the workshop with a ride on local, low-traffic roads. Spaces are limited.  Please register here.

You will learn how to:

  •  Perform a bike safety check before each ride
  •  Properly fit your bike helmet
  •  Start riding efficiently
  •  Stop with control
  •  Ride in a straight line
  •  Identify hazards
  •  Ride in proper lane position
  •  Communicate effectively with others on the road

You will need a bike that is in good working order and ready to ride. You may want to bring your bike to a bike shop for a check-up before the class. You will need a helmet, comfortable clothes, closed toed shoes and a water bottle. Age 18 and up only please.

If you do not have a bike, please let us know, and we will work with ofo bikes to provide a bike for you at a discounted rate.

This class will be taught by League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructors James Walsh and Irene Lutts.
