Quincycles invites you to an advocacy workshop facilitated by community activist and professional lobbyist, Erica Mattison. The workshop is free. Light snacks will be provided. About Erica Mattison: Erica Mattison, MPA, JD Erica is a resident of Dorchester and has been a community activist working on a range of issues in Boston for over a decade. She serves on the board of Greater Ashmont Main Street, a neighborhood revitalization non-profit, which is part of the City of Boston Main Streets Program. She is a trained mediator, with degrees in psychology, public administration, and law. Erica is a native of Brookline, MA and graduated from UMass Amherst Commonwealth College and Suffolk University. In her professional capacity, Erica has worked at the Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) for three years. ELM is a non-profit leader in shaping state-level legislation regarding environment, energy, and climate. As Legislative Director she leads coalitions and works with legislators, legislative staff, agency officials, and fellow advocates to advance an environmental protection agenda. In addition to working at the Environmental League, Erica provides career consulting services and is an advocacy and communications consultant for Boston Park Advocates. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Suffolk University for several semesters, and a guest speaker at numerous schools including Harvard and Boston University. Prior to working at the Environmental League, Erica created and led the sustainability program at Suffolk University. She is passionate about safe streets and is eager to share strategies for how to effectively advocate for policies and practices that foster healthy, vibrant, equitable communities. We will be riding the Shining Sea Trail which begins in North Falmouth and we will ride to Woods Hole. It is an 1 hour to 1 ½ leisurely ride from the trail head to Woods Hole riding on a paved rail trail and passing cranberry bogs, wet lands, and riding along Falmouth beach before arriving in Woods Hole. Read MoreWHEN: September 19, 9:00 AM WHERE: Squantum Point Park ROUTE: Starting with a quick spin around beautiful Squantum Point Park, we will ride out the Marina Rd. to the Causeway and follow the coast of the Squantum peninsula. On the way we will visit Orchard Beach and Squaw Rock. From there we will head back on the causeway to Marina Bay’s Boardwalk for coffee at Cream and Sugar. From Quincy Shore Drive, turn onto East Squantum Street. Turn left onto Victory Road then another left onto the Haul Road in Marina Bay.) ROUTE: Join us as we make our way along the Quincy/Milton side of the river (Squantum Point Park, Commander Shea Blvd, Newport Ave. Ext., W. Squantum, Adams St., Brook Road) before deciding whether to cross over the river at Central Ave. or make our way to the Pine Tree Brook trail, which connects to Blue Hills Pkwy, and taking Eliot St. back toward the Neponset Greenway and over the Neponset Bridge back to Marina Bay. There are a couple of hills (W. Squantum St. is a good workout) and some hard packed gravel in parts (Squantum Point Park and Turner’s Pond). Near the beginning of the ride, we’ll likely go along the RiverWalk behind Boston Scientific. That part of the trail has some loose gravel, so we’ll likely walk the bikes, but enjoy the views!
