Annual Bike Count

The Mayor’s Bicycle Commission’s 5th annual Bike Count is coming up this month. Please donate an hour of your time the week of September 19 to help the city see all the cyclists on the road in Quincy.

Please go here to sign up for a shift. Read the invitation from the Commission below:

Dear Bicycling Advocates and Friends,

The Mayor’s Bicycle Commission is conducting its fifth bicycle counts during the week of Monday September 19th and it’s looking for volunteers to help. This year we’ve refined the methodology to be able to cover more places while requiring less time from volunteers: instead of spending ten hours at each site this year we’ll only be spending three. Each spot will be counted three different times: once on a weekday morning, once on a weekday evening, and once on a Saturday. That means we have 36 time slots to fill.

If you or someone you know can help us out by counting for one, two, three, or MORE hours we’d love to have your assistance. I’ve prepared more detailed instructions telling you all you need to know about how we’re counting this year, but pretty much you plant yourself near an intersection for an hour and mark how many bicyclists you see. If you’re interested, sign up using this Google Doc https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZDbUT70zglh7LMjuoNnpC_mOZwsSarNox-wTQKkP06s/edit#gid=64108374. You can also read the Letter to Volunteers here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzJAXn69Tpj1NnBEUm1uUE5PMHM/view?usp=sharing to get a better idea of what’s involved in counting.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me. Thanks!
